Why Wedding Florists Have Minimums (And Why I Don’t—For Now!)
At Cottage & Co, I don’t have wedding minimums (for now!)—because every love story deserves beautiful flowers, no matter the size of your celebration.
Weddings are a beautiful celebration of love, and the floral arrangements are often a big part of creating that dream atmosphere. If you've looked into wedding florists, you might have noticed many have a minimum spend requirement. You might be wondering—why is that? And why Cottage & Co. doesn’t have one (yet)? Let's dive in!
Why Florists Set Minimums for Weddings
Time and Labour Costs Creating floral designs for a wedding isn't just about arranging flowers. It involves multiple steps: consultation, designing, sourcing materials, preparing arrangements, and setting them up at the venue. Even smaller weddings require a significant amount of time and expertise, so a minimum ensures that the florist’s time is compensated fairly.
Flower Sourcing and Bulk Buying Wedding florists typically need to buy flowers in bulk to ensure consistency in the designs. For example, if you're using specific blooms in your bouquets and arrangements, florists can’t just buy one or two stems—they often have to order in bunches. A minimum helps cover the cost of the extra flowers that may not all be used in your arrangements but are necessary to achieve the right look.
Operational Costs There are also operational costs like delivery, setup, and even storage for keeping flowers fresh. Larger orders justify the effort of sourcing high-quality blooms and preparing them perfectly for your big day.
High-Quality, Custom Designs Wedding florists aim to create unique and beautiful designs that fit your vision. Minimums ensure that they have the resources to make your wedding flowers a priority and give you the attention to detail you deserve.
Why I Currently Don’t Have a Minimum
Flexibility for Smaller Weddings At Cottage & Co, I understand that not every wedding needs a huge budget for flowers. Some couples have intimate gatherings and still want beautiful floral touches. Right now, I’m happy to work with couples who might not need or want a large floral package but still deserve the personal touch of a professional florist.
Building Relationships As a growing business, I value the opportunity to work with a variety of clients. Whether your wedding is small or grand, I love the chance to design something special and get to know your unique story. At this stage, my focus is on building trust and creating beautiful designs that reflect your style, no matter the size.
Adapting As I Grow While I currently don't have a minimum, this could change in the future. As my business grows and demand increases, I may need to introduce a minimum to ensure that I can maintain the quality and service that are so important to me. For now, I’m excited to take on weddings of all sizes and work closely with couples to bring their floral vision to life.
